Classes will be given by either an obstetrician or midwife. This enables you to be in the hands of those who have had considerable clinical exposure and have lived as part of the practical side of medicine.
The group is founded by Dr Hazem El-Refaey, a consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist. He is a renowned academic and clinician who has changed the face of the field he works in.
Throughout his extensive career, Dr El-Refaey has pioneered several treatments to minimise complications in pregnancy and childbirth, and has helped to save lives. These innovations are now a part of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) essential drug list for the management of labour, its complications, and pregnancy loss.Hazem has acted as an expert and advisor to several International organisations in this field and as such, has gained an appreciation for the value of succinct information and its dissemination for expectant mothers.
Dr Hazem El-Refaey is a clinician with 25 years experience; he has practised in a number of university departments across the United Kingdom, including London, Glasgow and Aberdeen (where he obtained his MD with merits).
He has been based in London for more than 15 years with an established private practice in obstetrics and gynaecology in Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, Portland Hospital and Harley Street.
Charlotte Deans is a labor ward lead Consultant at Chelsea & Westminster Hospital.
She graduated from St Mary's Hospital in 1996, and trained in northwest London. She also has two years of registrar experience in Sydney, Australia.
A Consultant Obstetrician with a specialist interest in intrapartum care and risk management; her aim is to improve safety on the labour ward in order to deliver healthy babies to healthy mothers.
A teacher on national courses for management of obstetric emergencies for senior obstetricians and lead for simulation for all trainee obstetricians in the NW Thames with a focus on improving communication skills with women and their partners during labour.
Charlotte believes education and communication are the keys to enabling women to enjoy their pregnancy and enter labour empowered to make informed decisions.
Our programme is enhanced by guest speakers. They might be a neonatologist, infant feeding specialist or an anaesthetist. Some groups will have the opportunity to attend a 30 minute talk by a guest speaker.
Bushra Al-Rubeyi is a consultant paediatrician with special interest in respiratory and allergy. Wide experience in both acute and chronic children illnesses from birth till 18 years old. NHS base at St Mary’s Hospital Imperial college. With an established Private clinics at Harley Street.
Ahmed Massoud is a UK-accredited Consultant General Paediatrician and Paediatric Endocrinologist. He has been a Consultant in the NHS for almost 14 years and runs an established Private Practice at the Portland Hospital, London. He graduated from University College London in 1987 and undertook his postgraduate training in various London teaching hospitals, including Great Ormond Street Hospital. Dr Massoud worked as a full time Clinical Research Fellow at the Middlesex Hospital, London, and as a Winston Churchill Travelling Fellow at the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. He published many scientific papers and has written a number of chapters.
